Premier League side Arsenal are reportedly keen on a deal to land Borussia Dortmund ace Sokratis Papastathopoulos, as per reports in England
According to Italian media reports, Arsenal are planning to raid German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund again this year as the North London side look to bring in Greek international defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport, as cited by the Daily Mirror, is claiming that the Gunners are keen in a possible deal to complete the signing of the experienced defender.
The same report states that French tactician Arsene Wenger has been a long-term fan of the 29-year-old since his time at Serie A side AC Milan, German club Werder Bremen and Borussia Dortmund.
According to the Italian publication, the veteran Greece international wants to depart the German Bundesliga giants at the conclusion of the current season.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos has netted two goals in 25 matches in the German Bundesliga this term, while he has scored one goal in nine matches in the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League.
The gunners have struggled at the back in the English topflight this term after Arsene Wenger’s side conceded 41 goals in 31 matches in the Premier league this season.
The Gunners brought in Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in a club transfer record £56million deal on deadline day in January.
The gunners were 4-1 winners against Russian first division club CSKA Moscow in the opening leg of their UEFA Europa League quarter-final later on Thursday evening.
